Using your workspace
Computer and browser tools
Learn where agent computer work runs and when structured browser tools are available.
A computer is separate from your laptop
The hosted preview runs agents in an account sandbox. In a self-hosted installation, an agent can be assigned an isolated Docker computer when the installation and engine support it. The computer shares the agent workspace, not the rest of the host computer.
Computer access depends on setup
Computer tools require a configured, running computer and a compatible engine. Claude and Codex have computer support in the public product source; availability also depends on the installed image and environment. If a computer is unavailable, the turn should report that condition rather than quietly running its tools on the host.
Browser tools are opt-in
Structured browser tools use the Chromium browser inside an eligible Docker desktop computer. They do not attach to your personal browser or reuse its signed-in sessions. Browser tools are off by default in the self-hosted configuration described in the technical guide.
- A browser action passes through the app’s approval flow.
- A website may require you to complete sign-in, a CAPTCHA or another check.
- The hosted preview and self-hosted Docker setup do not have identical computer options.
Check before starting sensitive work
Confirm which environment the agent will use, what folder is shared and whether network access is enabled. Do not treat an isolated workspace as a substitute for approval review or backups.
