Cursor vs Claude Code

Cursor’s docs describe an editor-centered Agent that searches code, edits files and runs terminal commands. Claude Code offers Anthropic’s coding agent through terminal and supported editor workflows. The decision often depends on whether you want agent work inside an AI editor or in an existing coding environment.

Editor-centered or terminal-centered

Cursor combines AI editing, autocomplete and agent work within its editor; its docs also describe browser tools and larger Projects. Claude Code suits developers who want to fit Anthropic’s agent into terminal or supported editor workflows. Check current model selection, account access and integrations before choosing. Compare how project instructions are shared and whether permissions are understandable.

Example: fix a bug with a regression test

Use the same issue in the same repository. Ask for a diagnosis, minimal patch, regression test and summary of commands. In Cursor, examine its codebase search and editor/terminal workflow. In Claude Code, inspect its command flow and final diff. Check whether changes are scoped and whether the new test actually fails before the fix.

Choose what your developers can review

An editor product may reduce context switching; terminal workflows may fit existing scripts and habits. Pick the interface your team can consistently inspect. Suparagent is a different option when persistent named agents, rooms and routines matter more than an IDE or coding agent alone.

Ask a developer unfamiliar with the session to review each final diff and reproduce the test. How easily a colleague can understand the agent’s decisions is a useful measure of team fit.
